Gabriel's 1st visits to the pediatrician

It is normal for the baby to lose weight at his first few days of life. When we went to Gabriel's 1st visit to the pediatrician she told us though that he had lost more than expected. Therefore, we should wake him up to eat every 2 hours (including at night!!!) so he would then gain weight. When we came back for the next visit we were extremely happy to know that Gabriel had gained way more than the minimum weight gain the doctor had established!!

É normal o bebe perder peso nos seus primeiros dias de vida. Quando levamos o Gabriel pela 1a vez na pediatra ela nos disse que ele havia perdido mais peso que o normal. Dessa forma, teríamos que acordá-lo a cada 2 horas para mamar (inclusive a noite) para que entao ele pudesse ganhar peso. Na visita seguinte ficamos super contentes ao saber que o Gabriel tinha ganho muito mais peso que o mínimo que a médica tinha estabelecido!

Getting home

We arrived home and put Gabriel to sleep in his bassinet. Lucas asked to be held so he could touch his baby brother. We said that since baby was sleeping he wouldn't be able to touch him at that time. Lucas went to the pantry, got a bench and put it next to Gabriel's bassinet so he could be tall enough and finally touch him!!!

Chegamos em casa e colocamos Gabriel para dormir no Moises. Lucas pediu que o pegassemos no colo para que ele pudesse tocar no Gabriel. Dissemos que como seu irmazinho estava dormindo ele nao poderia toca-lo naquele momento. Lucas simplesmente foi na dispensa, pegou um banquinho e o colocou proximo ao Moises do Gabriel para que ele pudesse ficar alto o suficiente para poder finalmente toca-lo!!

Welcome Gabriel!

On February 16th at 3:36 am God blessed us with Gabriel's birth. His weight was 6 lbs 15 oz. His length was 19 1/2 ". Everything was really quick. By 3 am we were at the hospital, by 3:30 mom started pushing and 15 minutes later we had the new addition to the family. The good news is that it went fast. The bad news is that, since it was so fast, there was no time for the epidural to kick in. So, guess how much fun it is to give birth without it...yes, no fun at all!!!

Oh well, despite that, everything is fine over here - we are all at home, enjoying having Gabriel with us. Mom and baby are doing well and Lucas is super excited about having a baby at home. I would say he is too excited... he wants to touch him, hold him, and be with him all the time. I just don't know how this poor baby is managing to sleep with all the buzz Lucas has been creating around here.


No dia 16 de Fevereiro as 3:36 fomos abencoados com o nascimento do Gabriel. Seu peso foi 3.155 kg e sua altura foi 49,53 cm. Tudo foi muito rapido. As 3 horas da madrugada estávamos no hospital, as 3:30 mamae comecou trabalho de parto e 15 minutos depois tínhamos em nossas maos o mais novo membro da família. A boa notícia é que foi rápido. A notícia ruim é que como foi super rápido, nao deu tempo para a pelidural fazer efeito. Bem, advinha quao agradável foi dar a luz sem ela? Pois é, nada agradável!!!

Bem, apesar disso, está tudo bem por aqui - nós estamos em casa, curtindo bastante ter o Gabriel conosco. Todos passam bem e Lucas está super animado por ter um bebe em casa. Diria até que ele está animado demais...ele quer tocar no Gabriel, pegá-lo no colo, e estar com ele todo o tempo. Eu realmente nao sei com esta pobre crianca está conseguindo dormir com todos o alvoroco que o Lucas está fazendo por aqui.

Caroline Visiting

Caroline came to visit us for a few days, from Feb 7 - 12. It was a short visit, but we had fun! Lucas was really happy to have his Godmother around. Every day he would come back from the day care he would ask for her...Al? That's how he called her...don't ask me, I have no idea where he got it from. Oh, one more thing...Caroline almost witnessed Gabriel's birth! I told her she should be prepared to drive me to the hospital at anytime. She said that would be OK, but I should keep in mind that in London they drive on the other side of the road. I am glad she did not have to drive me there ;)

Caroline veio nos visitar dos dias 7 a 12 de fevereiro. Foi uma visita curta, mas mesmo assim nos divertimos bastante! Lucas estava bem feliz de ter sua madrinha por perto. Todo dia que ele chegava da creche ele perguntava por ela...Al? Era assim que ele chamava a Caroline...nao me pergunte, nao tenho nem ideia de onde ele tirou isso. Ah, mais uma coisa...Caroline quase presenciou o nascimento do Gabriel! Eu avisei a ela que ela deveria estar preparada para dirigir meu carro e me levar para o hospital a qualquer momento. Ela disse que tudo bem, mas que eu deveria me lembrar que em Londres eles dirigem do outro lado da rua. Ainda bem que ela nao teve que dirigir aqui nos EUA ;)
